I'm originally from CA; where did you first hear of him while you were there? I never heard of him until I moved to New England.

I was stationed in Monterey, CA for about 2 years. However, I first heard of him while I was in San Jose. I was at an anime convention, and someone was cosplaying HG. I had a friend take a picture of me posing with him. I was cosplaying Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. I will post that in the photo thread for everyone's gratification.

Monterey is beautiful; God, it's been ages since I've been up north.
My dad was raised in San Jose and attended San Jose State College.
That is so cool that you were able to have that photo taken; I'm so happy that HG is popular up in Northern CA!!! RIGHT ON!!!!

Hello my name is JT Lamotta. iam pro wrestler from Dallas,TX USA. I have wrestled Many Dragon Gatetalents such as BxB hulk , matt sydal , human tornado and others and will be going to japan later this year. i just discoverd Razor ramon HG and i think its absolutley hillarious! If he just gotthe right exposure just like what he did on baketuan he be wildly freaking popular. I think he would do great if americans werent lazy and read subtitles..theyd get it but a place like jimmy kimmel or connan would be great places were "some' would get what HG is really all about.

The only thing I worry about is the language barrier. Mainstream America expects everyone to be "quick-witted" and I wonder if that may be his undoing?

I'm just making a comparison to stand-up comedians...if you even lag, they will boo your ass off of the stage.
I think if he were more literate in his English, he may stand a chance as that will give them something to relate to.

I don't know, I think Hard Gay could be insanely popular in the US but some of his stuff kind of would be a challenge to get around the censors(have you seen the one where he's upside down on the slide and the little girl is between his legs?).

I've never lived in the states so I can't speak for American
but the odds are he can't get away with that kind of hoax in the states.
I read lots of comments about the little girs with HG on the slide posted on youtube.
However HG himself was concerned about whether that scene should be aired or not
and said "kono e ha iindesuka?" in Japanese.
The sentence was translaetd into English as "Is this a good picture?"
but this doesn't convey the meaning of what he really meant.
The Japanese word "e" generally means, pictures, paintings, and drawings
but also means scene, cut and clip as a jargon in entertainment industry.
So, what he meant was "is this cut appropriate to be aired?"

If that were aired in the States, lawsuits would be abound, not to mention all of these organizations pseaking out in opposition.
The list is really endless on how much negative press he would encounter from that one spot, and iif it were ever aired publicly on American TV, that spot would have to be cut, as they would not allow it anyway.
I remember showing that youtube video to one of my friends who happens to have 2 kids and is Hispanic in origin. She nearly had a coronary and was absolutely repulsed and angry.
I tried to explain that Japanese humor is very different and would be considered, "over the top" for any mainstream American.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I could not convince her otherwise and I changed the topic of conversation before it got heated.
